Art

The Art department provides a learning environment that takes into consideration each pupil’s needs and abilities, while having high expectations of all.

We aim to develop a pupil’s awareness of their cultural heritage and an understanding of the importance of the visual arts in today’s society.

We aim to develop our pupils’ confidence in their creative ability and to promote the acquisition of the relative skills needed to meet that end.

All pupils in years 7, 8 and 9 are taught Art as part of the requirements of the national curriculum.
Pupils who opt to continue Art at Key Stage 4 are entered for WJEC Art and Design GCSE.
In years 12 and 13 students can opt to undertake AQA GCE AS and A2 Fine Art or Photography.

‘Age Positive Week’ Photography Competition

Mrs Broughton, Head of Art, is very proud to let you know that Joel Dixon has won a Age Cymru ‘Age Positive Week’ Photography Competition!!

Out of 80 entries and judged by professional photographers and artists he has won the under 16 category and will be given a £100 of high street vouchers. I was so impressed with his entry I was sure he was a winner. It could not have gone to a more deserving lovely student!!

Mrs Broughton has spoken to the organiser and she has congratulated our department on such excellent entries from our Year 10 photography students who will all receive a certificate of merit!
