Exciting Times for Croesyceiliog's PE Dept

The PE  department is always keen to get involved in new projects and initiatives.  This year we have two projects being implemented:

The PESS programme finished in July 2014 and has been superseded by the Physical Literacy Programme for Schools (PLPS). The focus has moved away from developing teachers to deliver high quality PE and is now looking at a more holistic approach whereby physical literacy can be used as a vehicle to address literacy & numeracy and to impact on the underlying reasons why FSM pupils underachieve – poor attendance, lack of engagement, low self-esteem, low aspirations, lack of parental support etc.  Miss Llewellyn will continue to be our KS2/3 transition leader and will work with Pontnewydd and Maendy primary schools.  Mr Pryce will also be implementing a trial project alongside the English department to use sport as a means to raise Literacy levels with Year 8 boys.

Mr Pryce and Mr Jones went to  the Dragons v Munster game as part of our rugby partnership launch.  One of our year 8 pupils was goal kicking at half-time as part of it (click on the link below to read all about it in the programme.)

Another exciting project is the High Level Sport & Education Partnership at KS5.  The school has signed up to a joint partnership programme with Cardiff City FC and Gwent Dragons RFC.  As a school we have been selected to deliver a BTEC Level 3 course from Sept 2015 which will allow students within Torfaen to combine their studies with an opportunity to follow an excellence route in football or rugby.
