Sixth Form

Years 12 and 13 (Key Stage 5)

Being an 11 to 18 school, Croesyceiliog can offer the advantage of continuity between GCSE's and post-16 courses. In our Sixth Form, students can choose from a variety of avenues. Pupils are asked to give an indication of their prospective choices half way through Year 11. The timetable is then built around these choices, although students are able, to a point, to keep their options open until after their GCSE results.

A-Level Courses

A-Level courses currently include: Art, Biology, Chemistry, Design Technology, Drama, Economics/Business Studies, English, French, Further Mathematics, Geography, Geology, German, History, ICT, Law, Mathematics, Media Studies, Music, Photography, Physical Education, Physics, Politics, Religious Studies, Sociology and Welsh. In addition we offer A-Level Psychology, through Distance Learning using video conferencing facilities.

Vocational Courses

Our vocation A-Level course in IT is very popular and in September 2003 the school introduced an industrial-standard computer network maintenance course. Croesyceiliog was one of the very first CISCO Academies in Wales and we are now a CISCO regional centre.

BTEC Courses

For pupils who feel that A-Levels might be too demanding for them we also offer two level 2 courses, Public Services and Travel & Tourism, which are the equivalent of 4 GCSE's. Success in one of these year long courses would allow students to gain a place on A-Level courses, as well as help them in gaining either a college place or employment.

Students are also able to resit English and Mathematics GCSE's.

All pupils who enter the Sixth Form also study the Welsh Baccalaureate (either at Intermediate or Advanced level). The aim of this qualification is that students gain an overarching qualification that helps them to mature in terms of work-related education, equip themselves with Key Skills and give them an idea of Wales and its position in Europe and the World.
