Extra-Curricular

Croesyceiliog School offers a variety of engaging extra-curricular activities. We consider the opportunity to get involved in such activities outside of the classroom as invaluable life experiences which boost confidence, communication, teamwork and broaden a child’s mind as well as learning specific skills. We believe each child is wonderfully unique, and this is reflected in the breadth of our club offering.

Extra-curricular activities take place during breaktimes, lunchtimes and after school. The 2025/26 Extra-Curricular timetable will be shared early in the Autumn Term. To find an example of our extra-curricular activities, please see link below:

The arts

There are plenty of opportunities for pupils to develop their skills and talents in creative and expressive arts. Our talented Expressive Arts pupils have opportunities to perform several times a year. In the past two years we have staged productions including Annie and a Christmas pantomime. There are also numerous clubs and opportunities for pupils to practice their artistic skills in clubs such as art and photography as well as drama and music.

Variety of clubs

Our wide variety of clubs give pupils the opportunity to problem-solve and socialise in a fun, relaxed environment. Most clubs are open to all year groups which allows pupils to mix with a variety of people with similar interests. Weekly clubs include chess club, knit & crochet club, Croesy Chosen as well as a quiet area for pupils during breaktimes and lunchtimes.

Sport

We strive to provide all members of the school with opportunities to participate, whether in the form of recreational clubs or competitive inter-school activities. There are a number of clubs available to pupils of all abilities both at lunch time and after school to include netball, football, rugby, badminton, hockey, dance, as well as tennis, cricket and athletics in the summer term. Our sporting teams regularly compete against other schools in a range of tournaments and sporting events.

Educational trips

Educational trips are a key part of a life at Croesyceiliog, with exciting and unique learning opportunities for children outside the classroom including local day visits and residential visits abroad. Regardless of the distance travelled or duration spent, our primary aim is to provide pupils with opportunities beyond the classroom to develop their skills and broaden their knowledge of the world which they live in. Many departments also regularly organise subject specific visits, aimed at enhancing pupils' understanding of the topics being covered and the wider world of work. Educational trips include visits to Llangrannog, Rome, New York and to Poland (Auschwitz).

To promote equal opportunity for all pupils, where possible, the school is able to provide support for pupils in receipt of free school meals.  In some instances this means that pupils can take part in trips or visits at a reduced charge, in other cases this could mean that pupils can attend free of charge.

Duke of Edinburgh

Pupils have the opportunity to achieve the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award at various levels and participate in a range of activities from volunteering to physical activities, life skills to expeditions. Achieving a DofE Award is a passport to a brighter future, valued by employers and universities.

"It’s not just during classroom hours that young minds can be nurtured, and research suggests that pupils who participate in extracurricular activities perform better academically and socially."
