Leader of Lower Phase

We recognise that the transition from a familiar and much-loved primary school is an anxious time for pupils and parents alike, and to help with this, we have a member of the Extended Senior Leadership Team dedicated to overseeing and coordinating the transition.

We have two Leaders of Phase; these senior members of teaching staff have a reduced teaching timetable and are committed to working with you and your parents/carers. They oversee the Wellbeing Team. Mrs R Kent will be your Leader of Phase for Years 6-8 .

When you join Croesyceiliog school, you will meet your Head of Year and your Wellbeing and Achievement Officer. These members of staff will be very important to you because they will lead your year group and help and advise you in school. The Heads of Year track your behaviour, attendance and punctuality and celebrate your success. Your Wellbeing and Achievement officer is a non-teaching member of staff who will be on hand to support you during the school day. They will share an office and you will be shown where this is when you come to school for move up day.

Form Tutor

You will all be members of a form group. There are eight form groups in year 7. You will register with your form group in the morning. You will get to know the other pupils in your form quite quickly and some of them might become your closest friends in school. Your form tutor will also get to know you all quickly and will take an interest in your standards and progress both in and out of school.

Lunch time at Croesyceiliog School

What can I do for lunch?

All pupils must remain on school site at lunchtimes and can either have lunch in the school canteen or bring your own healthy packed lunch. The canteen serves healthy and nutritious foods at a good price. You will need to bring approximately £3.00 per day. Some pupils choose to buy their cold lunch at break and keep it in their bag to eat at lunch. Please tell your parents to fill in the forms online if you normally have free school meals.

Examples of food available include:

A range of paninis and wraps;

Pasta with a variety of sauces;

Fresh fruit;

Baguettes and sandwiches;

Meal of the day;

Yoghurt pots;

Jacket Potatoes Salad bar;

Pizza slices;

Home-baked cakes and treats.

Mobile Phones

At Croesyceiliog School, we operate a strict ‘gate to gate’ mobile phone rules which must be followed by all pupils. Pupils are not allowed to use their phones or headphones during the school day. Your phone is brought into school at your own risk and is your responsibility. It can be in your bag but must be switched off at all times and kept out of sight. Staff have the right to confiscate any phones that are seen on school site during the school day.

Mobile at Croesyceiliog School

Instead of having only one teacher, you will have several. You will get to know each of these teachers well.

You may have to travel to school by yourself or use the bus for the first time.

You will be responsible for having the correct equipment and the right books, your PE kit and all other bits and bobs you might need. All uniform items should be named, and it will be your job to keep it all safe.

You may have to travel to school by yourself or use the bus for the first time.

You will have more books and equipment. You will need to carry a sturdy bag but can leave items in your locker. Every student in the school is assigned a locker that will belong to them.

In general, you will have to be more organised and independent than you ever have been before.  At Croesyceiliog School, we will not expect you to be able to do all of these things perfectly from the very first day, but as the weeks pass, we will expect you to be more familiar with things and to be able to manage the new challenges.

You will be responsible for organising your time, completing homework on the right day and handing it in on time.

What’s different about secondary school?

The school is bigger, and you will have to find your own way around from one classroom to another. Don’t panic, you will be given a map!

You must wear a full school uniform. This includes strict rules about every part of your appearance, including your shoes, your coat, jewellery, hair and make-up. There is a full uniform list later in this booklet.
