Pupil Voice
At Croesyceiliog School we firmly believe in the need to secure pupil voice in order to drive improvement in all aspects of school life.
The school offers a significant number of opportunities for pupils to participate in leadership roles and develop leadership skills.

Pupil Leadership Team
Our Pupil Leadership Team consists of Year 11 pupils who have been elected by the student and staff body. As part of the election process, those interested must apply in the form of a letter/profile, attend a formal interview with senior staff and take part in the promotional election campaign to the school community. A vote is then held to elect the new Pupil Leadership Team for that academic year.
The team structure has two Head pupils, two Deputies and three Ministers. Each of the Deputies and Ministers are linked to one of the following ministries and work with the Senedd members to influence change and improvement in one of these key areas. (Listed opposite).
Our Pupil Leadership Team are role models for all pupils in the school. Aside from gathering pupil voice, they have a range of responsibilities which include presenting to governors, leading assemblies, supporting with school events and organising raise awareness days or fundraising opportunities. The Pupil Leadership team plays a crucial role in establishing a positive school culture and strengthening the school community
Equality. Wellbeing.
Learning. Community.
Environment.

Our Senedd gives every pupil a voice.
Croesyceiliog School Senedd
Our school Senedd represents the views of all pupils at Croesyceiliog. This is a large body of students consisting of two representatives from each form class in every year group. In order to choose the form representatives, each tutor group leads a mini election process to nominate the pupils who they feel would best represent the group in the Senedd meetings.
Senedd meetings are held once a term and are led by the Pupil Leadership Team. This forum allows pupils to voice issues that matter to them and instigates discussion around any school changes that will impact them. Pupils are then given the opportunity to split into the ministries that they are linked to and discuss ideas that will positively impact their chosen area of focus.
The Pupil Leadership Team feedback any actions to pupils via assemblies, form time or via the Senedd notice board and media screens in order to ensure that all learners can see the impact that they are having in instigating change and improving the school environment.

Pupil-Led Ministries at Croesyceiliog School
At Croesyceiliog School, our pupil-led ministries give students a voice and a chance to shape school life. Each ministry focuses on a key area—Wellbeing, Equality, Environment, Learning, and Community—empowering pupils to lead initiatives, share ideas, and help create a positive, inclusive, and supportive school environment.
At Croesyceiliog School we are committed to supporting the wellbeing of all pupils. Our school ethos reinforces the need for respect and kindness towards each other to ensure that all pupils feel happy, safe and valued in the school community. Our Ministry of Wellbeing is committed to developing how we as a school can support pupils to look after their own physical and mental health and implement initiatives that will empower pupils to be resilient and manage challenges with confidence.
Equality and diversity are essential components in a school in order to establish an inclusive culture where all pupils feel respected, valued and are able to achieve. Our Ministry of Equality is a platform for pupils to voice their opinion and share ideas that will support the school to challenge stereotypes, reduce prejudice and celebrate the differences that make people unique.
Our Ministry of Environment discusses, plans and actions initiatives that will improve the school environment, with the aim to promote eco-friendly practice. To achieve this, it actively promotes environmental awareness and encourages staff and pupils to make positive changes that will enable the school to be more eco- friendly.
Our Ministry of Learning is a forum for pupils to share their views on teaching and learning within the school. Pupils discuss how to improve the learning environment along with expressing their views on what they would like to learn and how pupils learn best. This supports staff to deliver lessons that are engaging, develop positive relationships with pupils and secure pupil progress.
Our Ministry of Community encourages pupils to become involved in all aspects of school life in order to create a sense of belonging and strengthen the school community. It also develops links with the wider community in order to promote our school identity and foster a sense of ownership across all stakeholders
House System
Our House System provides additional opportunities for pupil leadership and representation in the role of house captain. This involves encouraging pupil participation and leading their peers in competition when pupils compete in the Eisteddfod, Sports day and other whole school events within their house. The house structure allows pupils from different year groups to interact, therefore allowing peer support and strengthening the sense of belonging within the school. The pupil body voted to name our houses after famous Welsh people:

Ty Bevan
named after Aneurin Bevan, who overcame a speech impediment to become a master orator and founder of the NHS.

Ty Campbell
named after Betty Campbell, Wales’ first black headteacher who helped create Black History Month.

Ty Russell
named after Russell T Davies, a BAFTA winning screenwriter of programmes such as Doctor Who, and who is well known for his work with LBGTQ+ organisations.

Ty Glyndwr
named after a Welsh leader, soldier and military commander who formed the first Welsh government.
Arweinwyr Cymraeg – Welsh Leaders
Our Welsh Leaders consist of pupils from each year group who are dedicated to promoting the Welsh language throughout our school. They positively promote learning and using Welsh through fun activities, events, and initiatives. Passionate about Wales' history and traditions, they strive to make the language accessible to everyone, regardless of proficiency. By working with teachers, pupils and the community, they aim to ensure Welsh thrives in our school and beyond and establish a culture where the language is celebrated and pupils are proud of their Welsh identity.

Additional Leadership Roles
Additional opportunities for pupil leadership across the school include Anti - bullying ambassadors, Reading Buddies, Year 7 Transition ambassadors and Year 11 Prefects.
